What you need before unboxing
- A Fire TV Stick or other Fire TV device, with its remote and power adapter
- A TV with a free HDMI port
- Home Wi-Fi details (or an Ethernet adapter)
- An Amazon account for the Fire TV

- Optional: a phone with a remote app for easier typing
Stage 1: connect the stick
- Plug the Firestick into a free HDMI port — use the HDMI extender if the port is cramped or behind a wall mount.
- Connect the power adapter to a mains socket rather than the TV's USB port, which may not supply enough power.
- Switch the TV to that HDMI input.
Stage 2: first-time setup
- Pair the remote when prompted.
- Connect to Wi-Fi — choose the 5 GHz network if the router is reasonably close.
- Sign in to your Amazon account.
- Skip optional app suggestions if you want a lean setup.
Stage 3: update everything
Go to Settings → My Fire TV → About → Check for updates, and install any updates. An up-to-date system avoids many app compatibility issues.

Go to Settings → Display & Sounds → Display. Set resolution to Auto or your TV's native resolution. On 4K models, check the dynamic range setting suits your TV.
Stage 5: install an IPTV player

Stage 6: add your IPTV service
Open the player and choose to add an account or playlist. Select the connection type your provider specified and enter your details exactly. A phone remote app makes typing much easier. Name the entry clearly.
Stage 7: load channels and guide

- Stick restarts randomly: use the mains power adapter, not the TV's USB port.
